Valentine’s Day is a wonderful time to be in London. Whether you’re flying solo, newly coupled up, or have been with your other half for decades, there’ll be something exciting to do on Monday 14 February 2022.
Every Valentine’s Day, a swathe of Londoners beeline for the restaurant at the top of the Shard. It’s the perfect vantage point to see over London’s rooftops. Menu items include: a five-course lunch ( £95pp) or seven-course dinner ( £135pp), as well as a glass of champagne to enjoy with your meal.
Diners can choose from a selection of dishes including roast XL scallop with Cornish crab beurre blanc, celeriac, and granny smith apple; venison Wellesley for two, with garlic buttered greens and pomme purée; and the ‘Don’t Break My Heart’ dessert of Yorkshire rhubarb tart with passion fruit custard cream and ginger cremeux.
Add a Spanish twist to your celebration at one of José Pizarro’s bustling restaurants, where you can enjoy top-notch Spanish cuisine and keep the cava flowing. The affair at the Spanish chef’s Bermondsey restaurant is serving an intimate (and hearty) eight-course tasting menu ($75) for two (Feb 11-14) that includes oysters with apple vinaigrette, ibérico ham, toasted bread dressed in garlic, olive oil, and Catalan tomatoes for the meats. Finally, the restaurant is offering strawberry and blueberry ice cream and chocolate delights, which may be paired with a chocolate espresso martini. For something lighter, the RA (Feb 11-14) and Broadgate Circle (Feb 11-14) locations will serve two oysters with green apple and cider vinegar for £12 each.
Love is in the air at Nordic Aquavit London with a selection of sharing specials designed for two. Dishes include cep and onion crusted chateaubriand with celeriac and truffle purée, green beans, pancetta and red wine jus (£90), with the option to add a Västerbotten cheese gratinated lobster (£65) for a spot of surf ‘n’ turf. Whole roasted dover sole with burnt leeks, dill, fennel, white wine sauce, grilled lemon, and crispy oyster is one of the options. The other dishes include red velvet cake with mirror glazed raspberry mousse and white chocolate crumb ( £22), as well as whole roasted dover sole with burnt leeks, dill, fennel, white wine sauce and grilled lemon ( £42).
For a more casual affair this Valentine’s Day, try Hawksmoor Seven Dials. The restaurant is offering steak or chicken to share for two at £60. Choose from sirloin with peppercorn sauce and a glass of fizz, or a whole roasted chicken with crackling and stuffing. Both dishes come with half a Brixham lobster, triple cooked chips, greens and herb butter sauce. In addition to Hawksmoor Seven Dials’ special deal on sharing for two, more main course options include: 300g rump steak (£18), 300g rump steak (£18), and a Hawksmoor burger (£14).
Treat your beau to a special dinner at STK Steakhouse on Valentine’s Day. Indulge in a night of ‘vibe dining’ with friends, where you cozy up in a luxurious dining booth and listen to music while eating delicious food. For the occasion, STK Steakhouse has three course Valentine’s Menu featuring a red snapper crudo, followed by a wagyu striploin (which you can also get with a colossal prawn on top or cured and roasted salmon. To finish, share a chocolate lava marshmallow cake.
Mayfair has launched a campaign called “Love at Grand 34,” an elegant and unusual celebration of Valentine’s Day. It begins with an floral installation outside the restaurant, as well as bespoke cocktails and desserts, live instrumental jazz, and more. With new herbaceous beverages like the Something Spicy with Tequila (with ancho pepper, pink peppercorn and fresh coriander and rosemary agave) and chocolate mousse that has a raspberry centre, you’ll want to pull out all stops.
The Seafood Bar is providing a Valentine’s Day menu featuring fresh crustaceans and fish for a luxurious seafood dinner. Start with sustainably reared oysters, which come with thick cut chips, and then wind down with a delightful surprise. The delights of the average English picnic are complemented by the restaurant’s unique menu, which includes a selection of wines from around the world as well as champagne toasts for special events. The Seafood Bar has produced its own free “You’re my lobster” t-shirts for the evening, a not-so-subtle reference to the quote popularized by Friends – which you may wear instead of ruining your date night attire.
This popular smokehouse is putting on a few special dishes for your romantic evening. This includes Siete Potencias (two rock oysters, aguachili negro and pickles) Get tongued (ox tongue, BBQ sauce, green sauce, fried shallots and black tortillas) and Eat your heart out (ox heart antichucho, aji panca peanut and aji amarillo, giant corn an burnt sweet Romaine.) Enjoy a large wine selection, cocktails, or even a glass of mezcal while watching the chefs prepare your meal in an open kitchen that is centered around a huge fire pit. Perhaps not a romantic discussion point, but good to know all the same; meat is sourced from small farms and butchering on the whole animal is done in-house. This reduces the environmental impact as mass-farming systems are avoided and the cattle’s meat goes further.
Lina Stores is a bustling, somewhat chaotic restaurant dedicated to traditional antipasti and pasta entrees. Tuck into golf ball-sized ricotta and spinach gnocchi drenched in a tomatoey sauce; 30-egg yolk tagliatelle with parsley and sharp grana Padano cheese; or Sicilian casarecce with prawns, chili, and tomato. If you’re looking for the same great Italian cuisine but with more room to dance, try the restaurant’s King’s Cross or Bloomberg Arcades branches.
The Palomar is a large, bustling restaurant that has both bar and table seating and a flavor-packed menu that combines influences from Israel, North Africa, Spain, and the Near East. Sharing plates include zucchini tahini with candied walnuts, white bean m’sabacha with lamb brisket, harissa, and a pickled egg; glazed octopus with kohlrabi, date, and harissa molasses; and prawns with slow-cooked leek salad.
Frederic Bager and Emma Jüngling, who graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London, have been performing as a recital duo between the United Kingdom and Switzerland on a regular basis. They’ll be celebrating love at Mercato Mayfair with a unique concert of Carmen to Bernstein music on Valentine’s Day. Get your partner and enjoy a spectacular performance of romantic songs as part of the show.
