Client money protection is a form of insurance that protects the landlords and tenants’ money held by a letting agent. If the money is misappropriated, lost, or stolen or if the agent goes into administration, landlords and tenants can contact the agent’s client money protection provider to make a claim for compensation. Client Money Protect (CMP) is a leading insurance scheme that is UK government-approved and widely respected as an independent regulator in the UK rental property market.

MyDeposits is a government-licensed scheme that protects tenancy deposits. Since April 2007, all tenancies that take a deposit from their tenant on an Assured Shorthold Tenancy (AST) in England and Wales must comply with the tenancy deposit protection legislation. This means landlords or their agents must protect the tenancy deposit with a government-approved scheme within 30 calendar days of receiving it from the tenant, and issue them with prescribed information about the deposit having been protected.

The National Residential Landlords Association is the UK’s largest membership organisation for private residential landlords, supporting and representing over 90,000 members. The association was created from the merger of the RLA and NLA in April 2020.
